Recently a gentleman was walking along a railway platform, and in front of him were two Eire Army Officers. Suddenly he heard one of them draw the attention of the other to a poster which read— "What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" The Officer said, "What a searching question! Who asked it?" His companion replied," "Prdbably' it is sdmethihg out of the Bible, but who uttered the words I don't know." Whereupon the first sneaker replied, "Well, it is a searching question anyway." RlBLE TRUTH CORNCERNING PARADISE H" you ■ ver uhought What the word "Paradise" means? The ready aiiovver comes: "Jesus said to the thief, This day shalt thou be with me in Paradise." Paradise therefore must mean heaven, and Jesus here promised the thief that he should be with him that day in neaven. But was this so"? Let us ask some questions : — 1. Does not the Creed state that Jesus was "crucified, dead and buried, he descended into hell," etc. How, then, could he have gone to heaven ? 2. Is it not written, "Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell" (Acts 2; 27) which shows that his soul was there? 3. Did not Jesus say on the morning of His resurrection, "Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father" (John 20, 17), proving that Jesus had not, even then (three days after his crucifixion) , been to his Father. How then could the thief have been there? Do not these questions show that the matt'er requires further consideration? The general construction placed upon the promise to the thief does not harmonise with revelation, nor even with the Creed, and it behoves all to see that they are not building on a sandy i foundation, otherwise the superstructure, be it in appearance ever so beautiful and strong, will fall in the day when God's wind will blow and God's rain will beat upon it. This, and many other apparently contradictory questions are harmonised in the 300 page book "Christendom Astray," obtainable post free from:— H. W. Christie, McDonald Road, Levin. XMAS SPECIALS .
