CUIi-lHTOll Uli-CH, Dec. 10. Viscoimt Trapprain, son of the third Earl of Balfour but known to. liis .sliipmates on the barque Paiuir as Ordiuary Heaman Balfour, iigured in a sensatioual incidont in the Lyttelton tunnel, with Able iSeainau C. .Jessup. The two sailors had been visiting friends at Mouiit ITeasant one evening this week. Just before they left the hostesa gave each a large bunch of flowers for their quarlers. When they arrived at Heathcote rnihvay station they found that they had niis.setl the last rtain to Lyttelton so they, decided to walk through the tunnel. Progress was diiiicult without a light but this was supplied in a few minutes — by the keadlight of a loconiotive liauling a train through the tunnel from Lyttelton. After a hasty consultation the meu decided that they would not have time to go baek out of the tunnel aad that the safest plan would be to lie down agaiust the wall, which they. did. There was litlle rooin between the wall and the train and as it passed them the suction raised their hair on end. However, the sliipinates escaped injury and with the train safely imst they continued to walk, still clutching the bouquets. Prior to joining the erew of tlio Pamir, Balfour was a cadet on the steamer Tyndarcus. He has decided to make the sea his career. Tlie Pamir is due to sail for Sydney this afternoon.
