WAGES IN LINE WITH OTHER WORKERS

- Pres Association

By Telegraph-

WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. | "I am pleased to be a'ble to announce ! tbat through the good offices of the : iSlew Zealander Federation of Labour, j arrangements have been made for our ropiet,3iitatives to rneet the enipioyers' { representatives in Conciliation Council proceedings," said Mr. L. D. Robert-I son, general secret-ary of the Dairy j Factory Workers' Union touight. Thej conciliation proceedings will be held oni Jamiary 8, 9 and 10." Mr. Robertson said that it was obvious that the president of the New Zealand Dairy Factories IncVustrial Association of Employers, Mr. W. Marshall, iiad been endeavonring to misrepresenfc the views oi the union in the present dispute. So that there would be no misunderstanding in respect to the dispute, the Dairy Factory Workers' Union j wished to make it known that it dicl; u ot desire to injiire in any way the| dairy farmer. All that the workers re-j quired, lie said, was reasonable conditions and wages in line witli the other t workers of New Zealand. Mr. Marshall i well knew the great difficulty that the industry had had and was still havingl to find labour for factories. He also knew that the reason for this difficulty was that wages were out of line with those paid to other workers in the Dotninion. It was with the object of seeing that factories were efficiently man- ! ned, said Mr. Robertson, that his union : was desirous of negotiating an agree- j ment with representatives of the industry whereby those employed in factories should receive wages and conditions ! comparing favourably - with other \ workers in New Zealand. Ln the event | of no progress being made in conciliai tion in January, a further official instruction will be issued by the national j council of the dairy workers' organisa-j | tion to each of its branches. In the ; | meantime instructions have heen issued ! that work shall proceed normally.
