ABANDONED BABY FOUND
AUCKLAND, J 10. The discoverv of a baby in a drain at Otahuhu 011 April 3 led to the appearance in tlie Police Court today of Gladys Ellon Black, aged 29, waitress, a married woman separated from her husband, charged with unluwfully abandouing a male cliild under two years. Accused pleaded guilty. Evideuce was given that the ehiJd was found wet to the skin from lying in tlie drain. The cliild was icy cold. Detoctive E. 13. Vasta, of Wanganui, said he interviewed accused concerning a cliild boru to her in jMarcli wliicli accused had previously told the police had been handed over to the cliild 's alleged father. The detective added that in a statement to the police accused said the baby was liorn in an ambulauce ou the way to Wanganui whare the chihl WelI'are Department said nothiug couid be dorie for her. She then camo to Auckland and went as l'ar as St. ivlary'a Hoiho but did not enter the Hoiue, leaving tiie babv in the gutter. Slie then returued to her four children in Hunterville. Accused was . comimtte.l to the Supreaie Court for sentence.
