PRIMARY SCHOOL CONCERT
BUMPER HOUSE GREETS ' PUPILS The concert presented each year by pupils of the Levin Public School was held on Tuesday night in the Horowhenua College assembly hall. There was a packed house and many would-be patrons were turned away. Every item was excellently performea and the variety was such that the audience's attention was ,ield throughout the programme. The plays were well acted, and the children must be congratulated 011 overcoming to a certain extent the aandicap of portraying adult charicters. A feature of the evening ,vas the staging of a three-act play, which had been written and produced by Carolyn Chapman, a pupil in Standard 4. • The children were entirely at :ase in front of the audience, and rnuch must be said for their behavlour on and off the stage. Two tems which found immediate favDur were the Maori numbers presented by Form 2A and by the Maori pupils. In congratulating the children on their excellent performances, Mr. A. 3. Kennerley, chairman- of thej -school eommittee, said that the ! annual concerts were steps in the whole phase of the children's education. The children had worked nard to produce the variety of items, and had been arnply rewardad by a bumper house. The speaker j concluded by thanking the head- ; master (Mr. H. F. McClune) and his staff, Mr. N. A. Byrne, the prin- , cipal of the college for granting | permission for the use of the haii, j and the college advisory commit- 1 tee for its co-operation. i The headmaster (Mr. McClune j thanked the parents for their co- j operation in allowing the children | to take part in the concert. He said | that without co-operation between j the pupils and staff , the right tone and attitude towards work | was riot possible. He concluded by ; nanking the school eommittee and ; all who had helped in any way to; make the concert such an.outstand- i ing success. TA; Christmas play, Std. 1B; songs, "Fair Are M.y Fields" and "Cradle Song,*' Std. 2B; play, "The Stone in the Path," and I Maori numbers, Std. 2A; verse ! speaking, "A Cavalry Song," "Trade j winds," "A Maori Luiiaoy" and! "Night," Stds. 3 and 4B; skNch. "The Singaphone," Std-. 3A: physical education display; song, "When Irish Eyes are Smiling," A. Collett; three-act play, "The Secret of the Overlarge Pearl," Std. 4A; Maori numbers, Maori pupils; play. "Girls Will be Boys," Forins 1 and 2B; songs, "Rocking" and "The Fiight of the Earls," Std. 4A; highland dance, Jennifer Jack; play, "When ihe Whirlwind Blows," literature club: recitation, Barry Walker; two items by the Levin Boys' Band; and song and dance, "To a Miniature," Music Club.
