WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
OTAKI'S MONTHLY MEETING The December meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute was held in the Anglican Hall recently. Mrs. Lumley presided and welcomed all members and visitors. The gtitiering took the form of a musical afternpon. Pleasing vocal 'solos were rendered by Mesdames Ashwin, Gower and Summers, while Mrs. McConvrlle gave an enjoyable elocutionary item. The institute choir, under the baton of Mr. Townrow, gave a bracket of part songs and Christmas carols. This was the first performance of the recentiyformed choir, and its renderings were loudly applauded. The choir will entertain the patients of the sanatorium with carols this evening.
Afternoon tea was then served by the hostesses, Mesdames Ashwin, Allan, Williams, White, Temuera, Turnbull and Box. Three parcels were sent to Britain last month and two letters were read thanking the institute for parcels received. The sum of £2 6s was collected at this month's meeting for further parcels. . The usual competitions were held, the results being as follows: — Best flower, Mrs. Drew; best shrub, MrsDrew; novel table cloth, Mrs. Ashwin. The meeting, was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
