STATE HOUSES AT LAST
FIRST UNITS NEAR COMPLETlON "It is anticipated that the housitig inspector will Be down from Palmerston North next Thursday to take over the firSt two State houses to be completed in Chamberlain Street, one single unit And one double unit," Said the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin), speaking at a' meeting of the Levin Borough • Council last night, "and it is hoped to have them occupied before Christmas." His Worship went on to say the cOntractor had advised him that . the completion of the remaining ; houses rested with the painter.' Asked whether it could be assumed that one further house per month would be , available for occupation, the contractor had replied that this was a reasonable assumption. Mr. Burdekin said that when one kneW, as he did, of the 3 desperate cases of people in Levin requirirtg housing accommodation, the delay which had occurred in the completion of the houses was deplorable.
