TRIBUTE TO MINISTER

FRIEND OF WOOLPACK INDUSTRY Speaking at the annual dinner o.f New Zealand Woolpack and Tcxiiles, Ltd., held at Foxton last week, Mr. F. W. Vickerman (managingdirector) paid a tribute to the Ilon. .0. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, for the work he had done in eonncction with the woolpack factory and the flax industry. In proposing the toast of "Absent. Friends," Mr. Vickerman said that he was vcry sorry tliat Mr. Sullivan could not be present at the gathering, and went 011 to say that he was pleased to be able to oall Mr. Sullivan not only a personal friends, but a friend of the woolpack Industry. "The Minister has always had confidence that Woolpacks could do something with our native flax. At the ri.sk of beeoming unpopular with his colleagues in Parliament, he has continually advoeated Woolpacks and assisted the industry to the utmost of his ability, and, through his assistance, kept it on its feet. While at times he may have regrette.d his actions to some extent, he never lost faith in the project, and strongly believed that success would be the ultimate result. Today that objective has been achieved. The Hon. Mr. Sullivan's assistance and co-operation j will always be remembered by . those who were associated with the industry in its early stages. and I i charge you all to pass the tradition ! down through the years. Woolpacks is here and here to stav, and 'with it the memory of the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who never lost faith in its ultimate success. I very muc'n regret that hr is not able to be with us tonight, but I hope that he will eontinue to nav us vk'its in the future as in the past."
