A letter to .the aeeretarv of the | Traimvaynien 's Uiiion, w liicli waa re • leased for publieation today * by the deputv cdminuan of Ihe City Council 's tramvvay.s committee, t races the negotiatio 11s which took place earlier this week before the tramwaymeu declared their intention of working a 40-hour week as from Mouday. The letter states that the council offers the tramwaymeu one penny a shift for all shift workers irrespective of the time of the day in which the shift is worked; a working week iu the traffic from Monday to Friday inclusive/ and time and a half for the first three
and a half hours 011 Saturday, with double time thereafter. Thc letter. points out that these offe 4, if accepted, could be put into effect from Monday but the rearranging of the roster so that more workers would be released from work on Saturdays for wolk during the week, could not be carried out before the holidays.
