SEVENTEEN BABIES DIE
PUZZHNG AILIVIENT IN BRITAIN Received Monday, 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 10. Seventeen newly-born babies died in less than a month as a' resplt of an ailment which is believed to be a form of gastroenonrjtis, says Reuters. The latest death reported today oceurred in Leicester City gener^l hospital, where the authorities are closing the maternity block in an effort to dispel the infection. Maternity wards are closed in three other areas where the hospitals are affected. Another hospi- , tal where newly-born twins died is suspeeted. Rabies born at home and those breasted-fed appear to be immune. A health officer in one of the affected districts has advised expectant mothers to have their babies at home until the puzzle of the disease is solved.
