WELLINGTON, Dee. 13. In their first del'enee of the Nnnneley Giisket sinee they won it from Ganterbttry three weeks ago. the Ilntt Yalley Lawn Tennis Association 's team were leading Auckland by four niatehes to two at the eonclusion of the first day's play todav. The games were plaved on the Association 's new eonrts at Mitchell Park whieh showed evidenee of eareful preparation for their first use in competition games. A gusty northerlv at times played trie.ks with the ball but- the weather was beautifully fine. Ilutt won three singles and one doubles. Greatest inlerest was aroused by the mateh between Mrs. J. Robb, Ilutt No. 2, and M iss K. A. Attwood. leading Aue klander, Mrs. Robb winning the mateh onlv after the seeoiul set had gone to tlie 2(ith gaine. The Ilutt first player, Mrs. J. Graham, who is eonsidered to have c.xeellent prospects of winning the New Zealand title this season, proved too strong for Miss B. Potter, seeond Auckland player. Mrs. I. Gyles, Ilutt, seored a valiinble win over Miss T. L. Adams. Mrs. R. IV. Smith ( formerly Miss Para Gooke > had a comfortable win over Mrs. Iving, Hutt's t'ourth player. The doubles went as was expeeted though neither mateh was taken as easilv as seemed likelv. Results were as follow, Ilutt nanies first: — Singles. Mrs. .T. Graham beat Miss B. Potter (1—2, (5 — 4.
