MORE HOUSES FOR WORKERS
FOXTON'S NEEDS TO BE MET "We must give consideration to building accommodation in Foxton as an inducement to people to come and. work in the woolpack factory," said Mr. E. J. Fawcett, Director of Agriculture, when speaking at the Woolpacks and Textile Company's annual dinner at Foxton on Friday evening. "The factory must get back to the stage of producing 50 per cent., if not more, packs — we should produce more. The main employment difflculty today is finding female operatives. However, in an end.eavour to help meet the position, a group of people will be visiting Foxton shortly. The visitors will include a representative of the Housing Department, the Building Controller and a representative of ihe Rehabilitation Department. They will confer with the Mayor (Mr. Podmore) and the managingdirector of Woolpacks (Mr. Vickerman) and see what is required and how new houses can be built." In conclusion,- Mr. Fawcett said : "There has been talk for a long time about what should be done, but the time has arrived when all concerned must get down to it and do something, and something is going to be done/'
