RUGBY TESTS
AUCKLAND S SUGGESTIONS Zcalaiid iiugby Uiiicm's arfangeiueuta lor tiie secoiid test match betivooii Australia aud New Zealaud, played at Edeu Park on iSeptember 28, were amplilied at tonight's meetiug of the Auckland b'uioii management coinmittee, in l'esponse to a request from tiie New ZeaJand Union. A motion by the chairinan, Alr. C. L. Cherney, that the meeting go into committee, provided a liveiy diacusaiou. fcjoine members felt that aa the charges had aiready been made public, the discuaaion ahould be held in open meetiug. Mr. Cherney said he had no desire to suppresa anythiug and gave an assurance that a fuli report would be 'released'for publicatiom
| Th6 meeting then went into commitj and 011 resuniing open meeting, Mr. i Cherney aaid it had been decided to jvviito to the New Zeaiand Union assuring them that the origiiial charges were j not made with a view to creating a conj troversy. The sole object was to en;sure that the incidents which formed j the basis of the charges, would not oc- ! eui" again. Improvements which the j Auckland Union wislied to have effect1I ed were as follow: — i fke seiection of All Black teams should only be i'ollowing a systeni of trial uiatches. A team seleeted from uoiuinations alonc couid not b6 6xp6ct^ ed to prove satisfactory. In fairness to the players the seleeted team should be asseniblod some days boiore the match to allow time for combined training. All Black players for Ihe second test were not assembled until the morning before the match and no outdoor training had been possible owing to bad weather. The best and quickest methods of transport should be employed. Had air travel been arranged for the South Island players in September, they would have been saved a very trylng journey. The appearance of the All Black jerseys ^ was not good. The numbers were difficuit to read from any great distance. ' s
It was also decided, said Mr. Cherney that the Auckland delegate to a speeial ineeting of the New Zealand Union at Wellington on Februarv 28, would be instiucted to raise the above suggestions for discussion. The Auckland Union felt that a discussion with dele g^tes from the other unions would assist in effecting the desired improvements.
