ALL SUFFER FROM ACTION OF WATERSIDERS

SORELY NEEDED GOODS STILL IN SHIPS By Telegraph — Press Association ■ AUCKLAND, Dec. 10. Uniess an early start oan be inade with their diseharge, losses through deeay are expeeted in a shipinent of 4638 sacks of potatoes brouglit froin the South Isiand to Auckland by the Union Company steamer Omana which arrived here on Monday night. _ She has been given a tying-up berth at thfe end of queen 's wharf until a discharging berth ean be found for her. She is expeeted to move to another berth on Thursday but.it is possibie that the watersiders' decision not to accept Saturday morning vvork may result hn some of the potatoes stiil being on board on Monday. The consignnrent was loaded at Timaru which the Omana left on November 25 for Lyttelton and Auckland. They have now been in the ship for more than two weeks and may. not be discharged in three weeks. About 1400 sacks. from the South have already been unloaded from the steamer Waimarino. The effeet of the 40 hour waterfront week which has now been in force ai Auckland since November 29, is being seriously felt in the movement of coastal cargoes. Several thousand tons of general c&rgo including urgently needed supplies of sugar, are now wajting shipment to southerrf ports. Three coastal steamers left here fo: the South between November 23 and November 28 'but since then there have been no sailings, The Waimarino, which is still discharging, would probably have left loaded for the south by now but for the delays at Auckland, and the Kauri which ha3 not completed unloading gypsum, would have been well advianced in loading. As a result it. is not expeeted that at the prescnt rate of progress, the Waimarino or Omana will lcave here before Ohristmas. The Kauri should reach the South Isiand shortly before Ohristmas but with little niargin left for the delivery of lier goods in time for the holidays.
