SOFTBALL COMPETITION
FIRST ROUND COMPLETED ! I Games played on Saturday saw \ the completion of the first round of the Horowhenua softball competition. The main game between Otaki Aces and Achilles A was a hard struggle, good fielding and base work keeping the score down1 to the lowest of the season. At the end of Achilles' seventh innings the. -score was 18-alI, and although they fought hard to make it a draw, Otaki ran out the victors by 20 — 18. The other A grade game was between Kimberley and Raukawa, and it was characterised by some good displays of batting and fielding. Kimberley were the better team on the day and ran out winners by 33 — 28. In the ladies' section the game between Ajax and Otaki Aces, the latter .proved too strong for their younger opponents and won 39 — 1.2. Individual results were as follows: — Men's: Achilles A 18 runs, no homers; Otaki Aces 19 runs, 1 homer. Kimberley 33 runs, no homers ; Raukawa 27 runs, 1 homer. Ladies: Otaki 38 runs, 1 homer; Ajax 12 runs, no homers. The position of the teams at the end of the second round is as follows: —
In the ladies competition Ajax and Otaki B have one game still to Play.
