The women in the Ravensbruek concentration camp dared not appear to be ageing, said a witness at the trial in which Ifi members of tlie camp" staff are eharges with war crimes. She drew a picture of women trving to hide their greying hair with soot beeause the stafi' chose visiblv ageing women for extermination in nearby gas chambers. One of the accused, the pretty Swiss brunette .Carmen Alory, , had herself been beaten by the Gcrmaus for help ing French prisoners.
