MARCHING ASSOCIATION

l W -! PARENTS' COMMITTEE SET UP ! i At a meeting called by the Horo- j whenua Marching Association, and j held in the bandroom on Friday evening, a parents' committee was set up to assist the association in its activities. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. Macfarlane, W. R. Jack and Mr. F.j O. Malcolm. ! . Mr. R. Murray, who presided, said that before calling on Mr. J. Macfarlane, the association's official coach, he would like the parents to j know that all it would cost the ! girls would be the price of their | uniforms, plus 13s afiiliation fee pei i team. All travelling expenses would j be met by the association, and if a team from Horowhenua was sent to the New Zealand champiipnships ii would be a charge on the associacion's funds from the time it left ! che association's area until it was i home again. Explaining the need for a parents' committee, Mr. Macfarlane said that in the event of " a team travelling, especially juniors, it had been decided that two representatives from the parents' committee would travel with it. They wouiu be regarded as members of the team and would have all their expenses paid. "It is too much to axpect a coach to have the responsibility of sole charge of a team when it is travelling, and with two ladies to chaperone them a team will go on the parade gr.ound with their uniforms spick and span. Further we need the parents' help at various functions we hold to raise money to assist the association in its activities, and with their eo-operation it makes easier work for all," concluded Mr. Macfarlane. Following a general discussion it, was moved that all the ladies, present form a committee, with the recommendation that the secretary contact all parents inviting them to become members, and that a further meeting be held, Mrs. C. Nichol tobethe convenor.
