CHSISTCHUECH, Dec, 5. Averags prices grobably ia exc88s of asything ainco the 1924 season. were realxsed at the first Christchurch main wool auetion today, The catalogue was of 18,097 bales of wool with 2500 greasy stoek and 1800 seoured slipe stoek. Bidding was exceptionally keen from the Continent with local mills buying almost all of the auper wool offered. Some buying on American aceount gave useful ' stipport, Bradford operationa were very limited, The sale was. slow but steady throughout. The basis of values establ'ished early in the morning held all day, passings beiug negligible. The biggest proportion of the offering was i'uie hoggets with a good sliowI iug oi' other early shoru wools, Follow- | ing ihe mild winter aud excellent ! spring, hogget woois from North ; Canterbury aud Marlborough were in outstandingly good order. Somo South Canterbury hoggets were dusty. Adult wools were inclined to be dingy but in gcneral sound. | The sale opeued with the first lot I making in excess of 30d and that price was equalled or exceeded regularly during the day. .Top priee of 39,^ for a single lot of merino, has seldom been exceeded in Christchurch. The best price for halfbreds was 36J d. Little fleece wool of any quality changed hands below 24d. Some Contiuental and all local men soemed to be operating without limits.
