There is a waiting list of 30(H) persons in Sydney and .Melbmirne Wan-ting to travel to Xew Zeahunl but no ship is iu sight to take tliein in Ihe nc^xt I'ew weeks. The Australian authorities have appealed to Britain to have British liners calling at Australian ports diverted from Sydney lo eillier AucRland or WeHingtoii. The (irst request for the liner Austurias was uot granted. 'J'Jie second requcsl was for the liner Orbita at present ili Sydney but it is understood she will not cross the Tasman. Tlie third re quest is for tlie liner Onnonde due in Sydney on Friday from Fondon to be di\erted I'or oue trip to Wellington with passengers. In shi]i[)iiig circles it is considered that some respoiisibility rests with British ships in view of the fact that British liners have been bringiiig passengers from Fondon for Xew Zealand as l'ar as Sydney uhere they are stranded.
