This is typical of all Germany where the divorce rate is at least five times that of England says the Evening Standard's -Hamburg correspondent. Wars, rain, and distress have em- " bittered the relationship hetween the sexes. German women are increasingly contemptnous of menfolk who cannot give them cigarettes, chocolate and new clothes. The men are turning against the womenfolk hecause of their preference for their conquerors. lVlost German husbands returned to find wives unfaithful. The result is the biggest rush the divorce coiut has ever known. Divorce is cheap and easy. The State pays for the poor and in most actions divorce, which is ohtainable in 2 to 3 days, costs less than £10. Twenty-four thousand German husbands and wives have ' appeared be-' ■ fore the fifteen judges allocated to divorce jurisdiction in Hamhurg and there are another 12,000 waiting.
