OTAKI STATE SCHOOL
HEADMASTER'S REPORT At the monthly meeting of' the Otaki State School Committee last nig'ht the headmaster (Mr. James) reported that the number on the roll was 210 boys and 196 girls, a total of 406. The average attendance to December 2 had been 182 boys and 172 girls, a total of 354. Very few cases of sickness had been reported and the general health of the children was excellent. "Mr. T. Lind is at present visiting the school as a specialist in music," continued the report. "It is suggested that a roll of honour be compiled as soon as possible, with a view to having the names placed on the school memorial. Owing to a large hall being unavailable for one function, it has been necessary to arrange three separate breaking-up functions, and parents are being circularised for monetary donations towards the expenses. Final arrangements have been made for the senior class to visit Wellington on December 4.* The meeting of the Home and School Association is to take the form of a demonstration by the singing and verse speaking choirs. The school closes for the summer vacation on December 19 and reopcns on February 3.
"Buildings, grounds, etc. : Two windows noed repairing. The lawns and hedges have been kept trimmed, and It will be necessary to arrange for someone to attend to the m during the vacation. The long grass in the playground at the rear of ths school will need cutting before school re-opens in the new year. A new step-ladder is required to replace the one broken by the board's workmen. Holes are again appearing in the asphalt at the main entrance; the other asphalt work is still undone, and the drain pipes have as yet not been removed."
