GARDEN PARTY

ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON AT SANATORIUM With perfect weather conditions, a highly successful garden party was held in the Otaki Sanatorium grounds last Saturday afternoon. Under ,the leadership of Mr, Swan, the Horowhenua Pipe Band gave a splendid display of countermarching and several bright selections, which were greatly appreciateI by the many spectators. A varied and coloiirful display of the patients' work, which was of a very high standa'rd, was greatly admirea by all present. - A feature of the afternoon was the awarding of special prizes donated by Dr. Atmore and Dr. Wilson for the diff erent ' classes of handwork. Dr. Atmore, who very kindly judged the yarious exhibits, congratulated the patients on the^very high standard of work, which made the judging most difficult. The results were as follows: — Knitting.— Special mention: Miss P. Nehua 1, Miss D. Armstrong 2. Knitted lace.— Special mention: Miss L. Bragg 1, Miss N. Christie 2. Tatting. — Miss E. McNaughton 1, Miss A. Te Awhitu 2. Crochet. — Miss E. McNaughton 1, Miss B. Duffy 2. Felt work. — Knitting bag: Mrs. Crawford 1. Writing case: Mrs. J. Amoore 2. Felt toys. — Mrs. C. Thompson 1, Mrs. B. Howard 2. Woolly toys— Miss R. Hcmpthorne 1, Mrs. J. Gilliver 2. During the afternoon tea was served by the members of the staff, who were most attentive to the visitors. On the lawn a number of competitions were in progress which caused much amusement. I Prize winners for the following 'events were: — Golf. — Men; Mr. Irving. Ladies: Miss B. Linney.
