Personal The triends of Mr. Frank Shaw ' will regret to learn that he has again entered th.e Wellington Hospital. Mr. C. Robertson, who has been in Te Awamutu, is at present ih Otaki, but will return north on Thursday. Mrs. Robertson is still at Te Awamutu, and will probably be there for some time. Licensing Bench The quarterly sitting of the Otaki Licensing Bench will be held at Levin on Friday next. Vital Statistics The vital statistics at Otaki for the month of November were: Births 3, deaths nil, marriages nil. Presentation Fund A gitt of 4s has been received from "Anonymous" as a donation towards the presentation fund for Mr. L. G. Lowry. Otaki's Rainfall1 The rainfall in Otaki for the last month was 2.83 inches. The highest fall was on November 8 when 48 points fell. Rain fell on seventeen days and snow on four occasions. In spite of the fact that cairn prevailed at 9 a.m. on fourteen days, the wind from both south and north-west was heavy, causing very cool temperatures. Otaki was fortunate that rain succeeded the snow and thus saved the severe frosts experienced elsewhere. The rainfall for the previous November was 1.06 inches and rain fell ori eight days. Sunday's Fire at Otaki The dwelling occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Maiotakiwene (Tim) Bevan and family, which was practically demolished by fire on Sunday night, was owned by Mrs. Gilbert and family, who held no insurance on the place, neither did the occupicr hold an insurance policy on the contents of the building. Both will lose considerably. The house was valued at from £200 to £300, while Mr. Bevan 's loss on. his furniture, etc., is estimated at about £235. The fire started in the rear of the premises, but how it is not known as there had been no fire there for some days. At about 8.45 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Bevan were awakened by the fire and were forced to make a hurried exit, only saving the few clothes they could secure as they vacated the premises.
