WEEKEND CRICKET
During the weekend a team representing Goldingham and Beckett, Ltd., of Palmerston North met the local cricket team on the Shannon Domain in a friendly match. The home team went to the wicket first and- complled 105 runs before they were dismissed. 'Picard with 32 runs, Harris 14 and I Burke 12 were the leading batsmen. ' Bowling for Palmerston North, JenIsen took four wickets and Hearsey, !Woodmore and Harkness two each: Palmerston North in their first innings replied with 82. Woodmore 19, Jensen 16, and Hearsey 12 being the top scorers. Bowling for Shannon, Satherley took five wickets and Tippler and Thomson two each. Returning to bat in the second innings, Shannon scored 68 runs. Top scorers were Thomson (14), Satherley (12) and Picard (10). The best bowlers for the visitors were Harkness and McConnell with four wickets each. In their second innings, Palmerston North scored 63 runs, their last wicket falling to the first ball of the last over of the match. The best scorers were Sadley (15) and Dwyer (12) not out. Harris took five wickets, Satherley three and Tippler two. On the completion of the game, Mr. Harkness, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the home team for their hospitality and extended an invitation to the Shannon team to visit Palmerston North at a date to be arranged later in the season. Mr. Harkness also congratulated Shannon on their win. Mr. B. Harris replied on behalf of the local club.
