Field-Marshal von Mackensen aiul General .Mueltzer were found gullty ot responsiliility for the massacre in the Ardestine caves and were senteneed to death by shooting. The sentences brought tremendous applause from 80 blaek-veiled widows and rela.ti'ves. Tlie Ardestine caves victinis shouted: " Thanks, a thousand thanks" wheu the judge had the sentences translated into Jtalian for their benelit.
