GOVERNMENT'S STATEMENT

Received Saturday, 10.35 a.m. JERUSALEM, Nov. 29. Three shlps carrying the illegal immigrants from the Lokhita have left Haifa for Cvprus. ' The Palestine Government has issued a communique saying that it was once more compelled to transfer the illegal immigrants to Cyprus. "It recognises the disappointment and distress suffered by the immigrants and depth ,pf feeling that the deportations cause, but no country can permit the illegal entry of many thousands of people, who in the present case are i encouraged and assisted to make the attempt in complete disregard j of repeated warnings that they will ! not be allowed to land, and at- I tempts to destroy the efforts"*being j made by the administration and j responsible Jewish leaders to estab- i lish understanding in Palestine." 1 The Jewish National Council has decided that instead of asking theJews to strike for a whole day as a protest against the sending of the Lokhita immigrants to Cyprus, that all Jews contribute half a day's earnings to the immigration fund and join in a tliree-minute symbol , strike. ,
