Received WasJiington, 8.40 p.m. WASHiNGTON, NOV. 26. The Navy proposes to fly DC 3 transport planes from ari aircraft carrier during Admiral Byrd's Antarctic expeclition. Six pianes will be taken to a point ahout 100 miles otf the Ross lce shelf near Little America iii the carrier Philippine Sea. They will be launched with the assistance of jato-jet power hottles attached to the wings. A special landing strip will he prepared at Little America. The last large land planes to take ofl' from a carrier were Mitchell bomhers nsed in General Doolittle's raid on Tokio and other Japanese mainland cities on Apr'il 18, 1942. Tne pc 3 will h« equipped with stni secret radar mstruments to find the confornxation of the ground heneath the frozen Antarctic. Icebreakers accompanying the expedition will he ecjuipped with landing platforms for six helicopters to be used.
