IDEAL WEATHER CONDITIONS Glorious weathei* conditions pre■vailedi over the weekend. and local sporting enthusiasts were out in force in their various fields. Croquet On Thursday alternoon slx members ot the local croquet club joui'neyed' to Palmerston North to play in> the third of a series of inter-club matches under the auspices of the Manawatu Croquet Assoeiation. The iocal team met Feilding. The results were as follows, Shannon players being mentioned first: — Singles: Mrs. J. T. Bovis lost to Mrs. Jarrett 23 — 8, Mrs. J. A. Roach defeated Mrs. Haywood 11 — 7. Doubles: Mesdames Thomson and Bell defeated Mesdames Burne and Boswell 23 — 1'9; Mesdames M. Parr and S. Morrison lost to Mesdames Eggers and Jones 26 — 21. The final scores were Feilding 75, Shannon 63. Next Thursday 'the same Shannon team will play Levin at Palmerston Nortn. Golf During the weekend Messrs. E. T. Wilson, N. Mabey, V. Picard and J. Mabey went as representatives of the Buckley Golf Club to compete in the Wellington Golf Council's metropolitan tournament played on the Heretaunga Golf Club's links. Although the local players were not among the winners, they spent a most enjoyable day on the links. Bowling During the weekend a progressive pairs tournament was played, Messrs. A. R. Mills and A. F. Birss being the winners. It was pleasing for the committee to see such a large gathering on the greens, especially a number of yonng players, who are taking a keen interest in the game. Terinis Between thirty and forty members of the local tennis club gath'--ered on the courts on Saturdav afternoon, when club games were nlayed. Some very interesting matches were witnessed by a large n'umber of spectators. The club captain reports a very high standard of tennis since the season began, and has high hopes for the club in the inter-club matches which will be played later in the season. Keen interest is being taken in the game by manv ot the town's younger set. « w .Racing> ■ and swimming are still popular pastlmes and the Feilding Racing Club's meeting attracted k large following from Shannon. The bus which ran was well filled, as Well as a number of private cars •making the trip. Although the weather has been against those who favour swimming as their summer sport, Saturday's bright sunshine attracted a number of locals to the various beaches in the district. Oue or two braved the cold waters of hhe Manawatu River on Saturdav afternoon.
