BOMBARDMENT OF ATOM

Received Monday, 7.0 p.m. ' LONDON, Nov. 24. The research iilant being installed in the Birmingham University for the bombardment of the atom is the most powerful in the world and a big advance on similar apparatus designed in America and Russia, says the Daily Telegrapli's seieutilic correspondent. A feature of the machine is a new type of giant magnet measuring '32 feet across. The designer of the magnet, Professor Olipliant, and his assistants by adopting a radically new principle have prbduced equipment at a cost of £140,000 which will produce bombarding partieles with tliree times the energy given by equipment designed iu the United States at a cost of £500,000.
