The party ;-epresentatiohs in tlie new House of Assembly will remain obseure until the preferences are distributed to- , wards the end ;of tlie week, but it is clear that the Labour Party- has been returned to govern Tasmania fof an- ; otlier iive years. . Two Ministers have almost certainly 1 been defeated and'a tliird is in danger. Labour has lost at least two seats and a possible four. Tlie Minister for For.ests, Colonel Taylor (Wilmot) and the Minister for Mines, Alr. Lane (DarWin) appear to have been defeated, while the fate of the Chicf Feeretary, Mr. Culley (4>enisoii) is ;n doubt. The highlight of the poll was the easy success of an Independent in the Denison eleetorate, Mr. R. C. Towney, who recently resigned from the Labour Party. He has polled more than two "q'uotas, " or more than twice as many votes as the Premier, krr. Oosgrove, •who is returned in the same eleetorate. Another feature of the election is the vote in favour of Mr. W. A. Neilsou (Labour) in Franklin. He onlv recently reached tlie voting age of 21 years, ;*btit is seeond to the Deputy -Premier, Mr. Brouker, in the Labour groups of j votes and seetns assured of election.
