Many rivers overflowed their banks, made roads im-' passable and held up railway services in a number of parts > of England at the weekend, following torrential rain and a gale in the past five days. Water six feetodeep flowed through the South Wales town of Mountain Ash, both railway stations were flooded i above platform level. Many people were rescued from houses in Devon, where the rivers Dart and Mardle overflowed. A landslide of several tons of earth on the railway line at Pontypridd eaused the derailment of an empty train. Two small steamers were disabled by the heavy seas off the English coast. They are being towed to port after one had sent out an SOS early today. ,
