The Airways Division, it is uiiderstoocl, will be established imniediately Through this division the Director ot Civil Aviation will exercise control over the aeradio ser.vice both in New Zealand and in that area of the youth Pacilic wliere New Zealand is responsible for providing facilities. The initial step to implenient this decision is the recruitment of civil personnej to man the stations, some of which are at present operated by the R.N.Z.A.F. for civil aviation and others which are aduiiiitstered by the Post and Telegraph Department. The new organisation will take over tlie adininistration, operation and maintenance of aeradio stations at iSuva, Nadi, Aitutaki, Gisborne, Mechanics Bay, Napier, Blenheim, Harewood, Hokitika, Kaitaia, Mangere, Nelson, New Plymoutli, Palmerston North and Taieri. Any major reconstruction work required and engineering at the new statjon will, as 111 the past, be carried out by tlie Post and Telegraph Department to the specilica-. tions of the Controller of Airways. The Post. and Telegraph Depurtment will continue to provide and operate the aeradio services 011 behalf of the Controller of Airways at those stations vvjiere, for conveuience and economy of iperating ,the aeradio and coinmerciaJ uid adininistrative radio service are combined in oue statiou, namely Raratonga, Apia, N1 usick Point, Welliiigtou and Awarua. Altjiough at present only personnpl to man aeradio stations is being recruited, additi.onal technical and adininistrative personnel will be re-. cruited early in the new vear, for tho headquarters sectiou of the Airways Division. Approval has been given and arrangemeiits are in liand for the transfor of the R.N.Z.A.F. flying control organisation to a civil status within the cjvil aviation branch and applications will shortly be called from suitably qualilied personnel to Jill apjioint inents in difl'erent grailes of tlie new air trallie control organisation. # The aeronautical engineering division, the nucleus of which is at present in existence, will be considerably strengthened by the appointment of addition al su r v ey 0 rs, assist a 11 1 -su r v evo ns and technical personnel, and in addition to the existing ofliccs in Auckland and Wellington, a further offieq will be op.oned at Christchurch to myet tho needs of aircraft survey aiul inspcctions in the central and southern portions of thy youth Island.
