The Paraparaumu Women's Institute held its seventeentii birthday party in the Anglican Hall, presided over by Mrs. Hornsby. The hall had been beautifully decorated with flowers and fdliage. The cake was cut by Mrs. Pratt, a foundation member of the institute. It was made by Mrs. Smith and iced in the institute colours of lemon dnd green by Miss Caterer, and pronounced by all to be a very excellent one. The programme consisted of pianoforte solos by Miss Kora Lang and violin solos by Miss Eatwell, while the fchoir sang three songs, "Early one Morning," "Consecration" and "Sweet and Low." It was accompanied by Miss Hansen (piano) and Miss Rut-h Hoggard (violin) . A hat parade caused much amusement. The hats were cleverly made from kitchen utensils, and were hardly recognisable in their new guise. A competition was keenly competed for. The hostesses were thanked and a" very jolly party concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. A well-attended lecture on gardening by Mr. Matthews ("The Hoe") was held in the Anglican Hall recently.
