l.OX'DOX, Xov. 21. Mujor Aubrey Morris, chairman of the Wellesden Rent Tribunal, has a reputatkm for using formidable langutige in unoxpected places. This week he startled Jitigants appearing before his court by coudeiunjng "alien elemejits who Imy property yclejit furnished liouses and exploit tlie liick of aecommodation ", and went on to describe these aliens as ''zeugmatic owners in zoot suits, exercising maso ehistie and vulpine cupidity for miuseous gain". Most of the newspapers headlined the major;s comments, adding post scripts for the benelit ot' readers to ex plain the meaning of zeugmatic, zoot suits and rnasocliislio. One London eveuing newspaper, however, took the ma.jor severely to task — not on th" ground of the strain this language int pnsed upon reporters and the public but beeause, as chairman of a judicia tribunal from which there is no riglr of appeal, he spread the " detestabh falsehood" that a man 's race ma,\ . ])re,judice his judicial right s in a British court.
