FREEDOM AT SCHOOL
(Special Correspondent.) LONDON, Nov. 19. The theory that whexi pupils realise that there is no punishment for being "bad" they cease to enjoy straying from the straight and narrow path is claimed to have been proved at a school at Kirkpatrick Purham, in Kirkcudbrightshire. Pupils may smoke, swear, attend classes when they like, and washing is optional. The school was founded six years ago by 36-year-old Mr. John Aitkenhead, who is "John" to his pupils. His ideal is "teaching freedom and the art of living. ' ' He finds that only new pupils smoke, swear, or stay away trom lessons, but the older pupils rarely do.
