Received Thursday, 11.35 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 20. Replying to a request in the House of Commons for a statement on the mining of the destroyers Saumarez and Volage in the Corfu Channel on October 22, Mr. John Dugdale said the Saumarez was very severely damaged and might be a total loss. The Volage was also severely damaged, but could be repaired. A minesweeper on November 12 and 13 swept the Corfu Channel and twenty-two mines were cut. Two of these had been recovered and sent to Malta for a detailed examination. The Press Association's diplomatic correspondent states that interim reports on the minesweeping operations in Corfu Channel disclosed that some of the mines had recently been laid.
