POROUTAWHAO'S MEETING | The November meeting of the 'Poroutawhao Women's Institute |was held recently, Mrs. A. M. Scott ; presiding. ; An invitation was recived from the Junior Branch of the Levin W.I. A children 's party will be given ' next month by members of . the ! institute. Members will also hold !a dance on Boxing night. The jmotto for the month was given by jMrs. Rowe, and was "When in Itrouble turn your face to the sun, 'and the shadows will fall behind j you." A very successful bring-and-buy stall brought in a satisfactory amount, and 10s of this money will be sent to Dominion Headquarters for the Princess Elizabeth Gift Fund. During the afternoon, the president took the opportunity of presenting the secretary, Miss Betty Carle, with a beautiful cup and saueer as a token of esteem, it being Miss Carle'S twenty-first birthday that day. Items were given by Misses R. Arcus, Tait and Carle. Afternoon tea concluded a very pleasant meeting. The competitions were won as follows: — Christmas novelty: Miss Carle 1, Mrs. Carle 2, Miss Tait 3. Best bloom: Mrs. Speirs. Best shrub: Mrs. Hannam. Best vegetable: Mrs. Speirs. Mrs. Arcus was the winner of the afternoon eompetition.
