ACCLIMISATION SOCIETY

OTAKI BRANCH MEETS A well-attended meeting of the above committee was held at Mr. Edhouse's premises recently. Various matters of local interest were fully discussed, including the destruction of eels and river- shags for which the society had decided to pay 2s 6d per pair for shags' feet and ld per tail for eels, there also being a prize for the largest eel 1 taken. It was pointed out by the chairman that pheasant and mallard duck eggs were now available "for persons desiring a setting. The Wellington Acclimatisation , Council wrote asking, that this committee recommend several per-; sons for the positions of honorary: rangers for this district. This has been complied with and several names have gone forward. The chairfnan thanked all who had assisted in the liberation of fry and yearlings in the local rivers and streams.
