CENTRE PLAYERS VISIT OTAKI
Over thirty players from the Wellington Centre paid a visit to the Otaki Railway Club during the weekend and spent a pleasant afternoon on the green. On arrival they were welcomed by Mr. Ben Rolfe, president of the Railway Club, who expressed pleasure at having the visit of centre members. He was pleased to welcome them in the midst of such fine weather. : Mr. Hadwin, president of fthe centre, referred to the wonde!rful day and warm welcome, which; he said could always be expected as far as the Railway Club was concerned. It was with pleasure' that ihe trip from Wellington had been undertaken. He mentioned * ' the splendid playing surface of thegrccn, which he maintained - had' ncver bcen better. All looked forward to a good' day's play. Games were thcn indulged in and during the day the visitors were entertained at morning and afternoon tea. Before the conclusion, Mr. Rolfe said the visit liad given considerable pleasure. It was very gratifying to know that members of the N.Z. Bowling executive were' also present. This gave members of his club, especially the younger ones, an opportunity to meet some of the best bowlers in New Zeaiand, and he hoped that such members Would pay iuriher visits to Otaki. They could rest assured of a warm welcome. Mr. Hadwin, after extending thanks for whai he termed a wonderful outing, referred to the generous hospitality of the club's members, and also to the fine green. Mr. Hadwin pointed out that as the Waikanae Club might not be ready to take part in the pennants games on accoimt of its green not being ready, and asked the Railway Club to givc its kindred club all the assistance it could, and if necessary place its green at the disposal of the Waikanae Club. He knew that if this was done it would be greatly appreciated. Mr. Hadwin stated that there was no hope of paying a further visit to the club for some time, as the work of the centre was well booked up till the end of February. If there was anything the centre could do for the club, all it had to do was ask and the centre would guarantee to do its best. . . tournament matches took place in Wellington, he trusted that the club would send some of its young players, who were very promising. He felt sure that if they took part in tournaments they would prove successful. Cheers were then exchanged by the hosts and visitors. The results of the games were: — Points: Otaki Railway 166, Centre 158. Games: Otaki Railway, five wins and a draw; Centre, two wins and a draw. Pennants Game Owing to the unfavourable weather on Saturday, the Otaki Railway match against Plimmerton, at Plimmerton, for the Pennants did not eventuate. Centre players expressed regret on Sunday that the Otaki Club was not participating in Pennants games. Testing of Bowls The bowis lesier, Mr. Parry, will be ready to start the testing of bowls on November 25, and players who need bowls tested should makc ihe necessary arrangements.
