INTER-CLUB CRICKET
PALMERSTON NORTH WIN GAME WITH SHANNON The Shannon Cricket Club played their first match of the season on the home ground yesterday when -they met a team from Palmerston North in a friendly match. The visitors proved too good for the local players, but a most enjoyable day was spent. Palmerston North went to the wicket first and succeeded in scoring 87 runs before being dismissed. N. Mabey with 22 runs "was the top scorer, his runs being made up of one six, three fours and four singles. Loft (20) and J. Mabey (19) were the next highest scorers. For the home- team B. Harris bowled well, taking five wickets for thirty-eight runs. A. Satherley also bowled well by taking three wickets for ten. Shannon's total for their innings was 75 runs. Top scorers were Hobbs 23, Satherley 14 and Burke 11. Ongley with three wickets for 15 and B. Broughton with two for 16, returned the best bowling averages. In their second innings Palmerston North put 145 runs on the board, Ongley 44, Lofts 25, J. Mabey 28 were the best scorers and C. Mortimer with four wickets and Hobbs with two were the most successful Shannon bowlers. In the home team's second attempt they recorded 87 runs, i which was not enough to put them in the lead. C. Mortimer contributed 17, Hobbs 14, Bur,ke 13, B. Harris 11 and Tippler 11 not out. Ormund with three wickets and Broughton
with two were the best bowlers for the visitors. At the completion of the game, Mr. J. Mabey, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the local team for a most enjoyable day and hoped. that during the season the teams would meet again, when he felt sure that with a little more practice the Shannon team would give them a good run for the honours. In his reply on behalf of the local club, Mr. Satherley said that it was the friendly spirit in which the game was played that made these matches so enjoyable. Mr. Satherley congratulated the visitors on their victory, but thought that next time the two teams met the result would be reversed.
