SPORTSMANSHIP IN CRICKET
Sir,— Although only a young cricketer, I, together with a number of my team mates, was very disappointed to notice. a most unsportsmanlike action at the Levin Park Domain on Saturday. The circumstances were that one of th'e association's previously respected senior • teams was drawn to play the College second eleven, a •very junior and inexperienced side. The association has. a gentlemen's agreement that when the senior teams play against the junior teams, the former -will not employ their faster and more dangerous bowlers as a means of .their attack. Howev.er, on Saturday, what do we see? A very fast senior bowler doing his best to scare the younger lads out. That he "captured" five .wieke.ts in one over is sufficient to prove that, Itjie , 'hatemenv; jjvere scared, and fyeTf^ricketkis ; supbdsed to be a game, oi' should one say an raftemoon's relaxation? How does the association intend to encourage .young cricketers, when a senior team (or one player of such) is permitted to slaughter the youngsters by sheer speed and brute force as was the case. Yours etc "A WOULD-BE SPORTSMAN." Levin, Nov. 17.
