FESTIVAL OF MARCHING AND MUSIC
— DISPLAY AT LEVIN DOMAIN ■ Favoured with a brilliant sum-* mer's day, large numbers of citizens of Levin and surrounding districts attended at the Levin Park Domain yesterday afternoon for the f estival of music and marching provided by the Levin Municipal,. Horowhenua Highland and Levin Boys' Bands and the K.B.H. and Cale•donian girls marching teams, The programme commenced- with a march by the two girls' teams, looking spick and span in their uniforms. They made half a circuit of the cycle track, and-came across the- centre of the oval. to fini.sh up with one team eaqh side of the Horo whenua. Highland Pipe Band which supplied the music for the march. The Levin Municipal Band, under the baton of G. R. Lester next entertained with a rendering of the march "Dannescliffe." Displays by the K.B.H. marching team, followed by a drum-major's display by the Horowhenua Highland Pipe-
Band, under' Mr. J. MacFarl.ane, kept the programme moving. The Caledonian marching team next entertained with a marching display to music supplied by the Municipal Band. The Levin Boys' Band demonstrated to the public that they also had been practising for the afternoon, and their marching display reflects great credit on their instructor Mr. M.'H. Boyce, who has devoted much time in teaching the boys their different instruments. A highlight of the afternoon was the display staged by the combined girls' teams marching in unison, this being the first time it has been attempted in New Zeaiand. This item was given twice to music supplied by the Horowhenua Pipe and Municipal Bands respectively. Further ltems by the Boys' Band, a
marching display by the Pipe Band and items by the Municipal Band brought the afternoon to a close with the rendering of God Save the King by the Municipal Band. The collection boxes netted the sum of £18 13s 4i-d, which wilk be divided among the two teams, each team having appointed a secretary and treasurer from its members, The funds will be used to defray the general expenses incurred iii travelling, etc. Speaking to a "Chronicle" representative, Mr. J. MacFariane, the coach of the teams, expressed the thanks of the girls and himself at the large attendance of the public, and said that the girls were grateful to Mr. Lester and his bandsmen, the members of the Horowhenua Highland Pipe Band and Mr. Boyce and his boys, who ha.d contributed to the success of the afternoon.
