Personal Mrs. C. Cooksley, of Levin and late .of .Otaki, yesterday entered the Aorangi Hospital at Palmerston North to undergo an operation. Donation Acknowledged A further five shillings has been received from a well-wisher as a donation to the presentation fund to honour Mr: L. G. Lowry. Whitebait Season Ends The whitebait season closes today. It has been a more successful one than the last, a number of good "runs" resulting in large catches. Incipient Fire An incipient outbreak of fire at a local hostelry during the weekend caused mild consternation. It is stated that a cigarette butt ignited bed clothes. Maori Election Considerable interest is being taken in the Parliamentary election as far as the Maori candidate for this district is concerned. Voting will take place at Raukawa on November 26, the day prior to the general election. Gifts to Sanatorium The matron oi ihe Otaki Sanatorium gratef.ully acknowledges the following gifts-: — Whitebait, Messrs. Weston,- Baker and McKay; magazines, Public Library and anonymously; floWers, Mrs. Thorpe; materials for oCcupational therapy, Mrs. P. Simcox. Mission Camp An inviiation to.attend the City Mission Camp at Otaki early next year has been extended by the Rev. Harry Squires to members of the Wellington Pensioners' Association (Inc.).' This was announced at a recent meeting of the association when the president, Mrs. M. J. McComish, outlined ihe activities of the past month and the plans for the annual Christmas party, which is to be restricted to members this year, owing to the largely increased membership. .
