TE HORO'S NOVEL FUNCTION Nation al Day was held at the November meeting of the Te Horo Women's Institute, Mrs. Grant presiding. Mrs. Strom gave a -very interesting and comprehensive report on the , f ederation meeting held at Paekakariki last month. Mrs. Walkley gave several piano solos and Mrs. Evans was the winner of the New Zealand birds competition. , . Mrs. Morris then explamed National Day, after which the members were invited to inspect the exhibits on display. The mosf outstanding were "Windsor," a large china dog which was brought from England 78 years ago # in a sailing ship, a piece of hand-made embroidery made 100 years ago and a handbag sent from a link member in England. Australia was represented by a snake and a boomerang, while Germany, Italy, U.S.A., Africa, China, Raratonga and Fiji also had worthy representations. New Zealand showed a flair for art. The members were then shown the cookery section, where dishes had been prepared representing many countries of the world, England taking first place with a roast of beef, Yorkshire pudding and a bottle of ale. Ireland, Scotland, Wales, U.S.A., Norway and Italy were also well to the fore. These dishes were later sold to help the funds. Mrs. Johnson then thanked the ladies on behalf of the fancy work section and Mrs. Spiers on behalf of the cookery section. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
