VOTED HIMSELF ELIGIBLE
SYDNKV, Nov. 13. Wlien Alr. II. Wells, general president of. the Aliners' Federation, was found to be nnlinancial after the receipt of this year's noniination for this vears' presidential ballot, many members of the federation were prepared to rule liim ineligilile, even though his j dues were promptly paid. The ballot ■ was postponed for a fortnight while tlie c.ouncil decided whether fresh noniinations sltould be called for. Last riight. 14 members of the council were evenlv divided on the question of his elegibility. Alr. Wells solved thc problem by using his casting vote to dec.lare liis noniination eligible. The ininers' lodges still have to approve the? decision, however, and the eleetion will not be held before January. Alr. Wells is a prominent Conununist.
