The fruit to bo dumped has, it, is alleged, g'ono bad tlirough being stoutnl iu the locker room of Ko. 2 hold in wliich the temperature was well over 100 degrees. Watersido workers at Lyttelton wero prepared to work overtime on Haturday night and even on Bunday to ge t the fruit out until tliey wero informed that fruit unioaded on Tliurs day, because of the holiday, was still in the hands of tlie Kailways Department. That and the coiulition of the fruit decided tliem not to work further over* time on tlio consignment. Some of the ' bauanas received in Christchurch will require repacking and ihe cost of this will be paid by the Internal Marketing Division. The Port Alma also brought a ship* ment of pineapplcs some of w'hich were found to be affeeted witli mealv bug. These will be fumigated to kill the bugs.
