DESTRUCTIVE BUSHFIRES
- Iteceiv'cd Fr idav, 9.40 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 8. . The bushfires Whieh destroyed thonsands of aeres oi' timbered land in the Dorrigo, Kempscv and Armidale areas yesterdav and this morning, are now reported to be burning themselves out. A light rain fell in most parts of the State last night. Loss of pastures has started a lai'gescale moasement of cattle to areas on the -Macleay and Moiia JRivers. The blaze, whieh broke awav from firefighters on Wednesdav morning, eansed damage estimgted at £7000, and between 12,000 and 15,000 aeres of ftfrest area, representing 20 vears' work by the Forestrv Commission, have been slevastated. The'origin is swspoeted to be a tire lit by. a_ timber-mill resident to burn.a dead fowlf A strong wiiul aided the destrnetion of the Vlisused mill and a nnniber of other lmildihgs. Tnjuries wero sufl'ered hy several residents and the main road had to be elosed beeause of the danger of falling trees. Armidale is hidden in a pall df smoke.
