NEW PLYMOUTH,. Nov. S. The removal of the saies tax from all public ly owued passenger transport veliicles, whether imported or made in "New Zealand, is to be urged on the Government by the • Public Passenger Transport Association of New" Zealand. In coming to this decision at its annual conference today, the Association emphasised that tlie objeet of the request was to avoid tlie high capital cost that might have to be met by increased fares for the travelling public. The subject of the saies tax on chassis for omnibtises and trolly buses had engaged the attention of the Association for some time, it was explained. Frequeht repr'esenthtions ivere made to the Government for some remission at lcnst on this t-vpe of vehicle, but no relief had been provided in the recent Budget. It was reported that the im,posl on 50 wehicles amounted to £60,000. This would have to be found over a suitalile period ahd it would therefore readily be realised tliat some reflection on fares was inevitable.
