P6rsoual Mr. C. A. McBean, of Dunedin, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. Chester, Stout Street. The friends of Mr. J. A. Roach, who has been ■ indisposed for a number of mohths, will be pleased to hear that he is weil pn the road to recovery, and 'hopes t'o be among his friends again in the near future. The friends of Mr, D. McLaggan will be pleased to learn that he has returned home after being an inmate of the 'Palmerston North Hospital. Mr: McLaggan is now up and about again and steadily improving in health.Flag 500 Winners The women "s section of the local R.S.A. held another of their popular flag evenings 011 Monday. in Laurvig's Hall. There was the usual good attendanee and prize winners were Mesdames E. Thorne, W. Third, R. Andrew and Mr. R. Sands. 150 Year Old Tortoise Dies A tortoise, which is beiieved to be almost 150 years old and has been in the possession of Mrs. E. J. Gunning's family for over 90 years, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gunning recently. Mrs. Gunning has had the tortoise for about twelve years, where it has led a quiet life m the spacious garden of her home. It has been in good health, and it is beiieved that its life was brought to an unti'mely end as the result of an encounter with a dog.
