It has a pressurised cahin with an eniergency ejection device for the pilot. A special hook will enable the pilot to pick up moorings single handed without leaving the cockpit. It is claimed the new machine has a rate of climh and manoeuvrability comparahle with any land fighter. Its chief advantage is independence of the vulnerahle aircraft carrier or the costly landing strip for land aircraft. Any sheltered stretch of water will provide a rnnway which cannot he put out of action hy enemy bombing. The flyingboat fighter was designed originally for use against the Japanese in island warfare, says the Times' aviation correspondeut. It will be employed in conjunction witn a special type of portable floating dock so will be able to operate from advanced bases with a minimimi of equipment. It is expected it will make its initial flights within a few weeks.
